Artisan vs Topo

Artisan and Topo are AI platforms built to replace manual lead prospecting with automated sales motions. While they share a common goal, they take different paths to reach it.

Artisan relies on its static lead database, acting as an all-in-one engine for sourcing and engagement. Topo focuses on customization, training AI agents to follow a company’s specific sales playbook and industry knowledge.

Here’s a closer look at how both platforms compare, and why AiSDR might be a better third option.

Key takeaways

  • Artisan and Topo automate outbound sales, but they use different approaches.
  • Artisan focuses on ease of use and fast setup, using a large database and ready-made workflows.
  • Topo focuses on customization, training AI agents to match your company’s sales process.
  • Artisan and Topo have limits, including less ability for inbound reply handling and gaps in setup and personalization.
  • AiSDR offers a third solution, giving sales teams smart targeting, real-time signals so you work with fresh data, and end-to-end sales automation, from discovery to booking.

Artisan overview

Artisan is an outbound-first automation platform with its AI BDR Ava at the center. The tool is designed to handle the bulk of prospecting and outreach work, from identifying leads to drafting personalized emails so that sales teams can focus on live conversations and closing deals. The appeal of Artisan lies in how much it promises to take off an SDR’s plate.

Key features and capabilities

Here are some of Artisan’s core features:

  • AI BDR Ava: Automates sourcing, enrichment, email writing, and follow-ups.
  • Contact database and enrichment: Access to a large pool of verified B2B contacts with added firmographic, technographic, and intent signals to qualify leads more effectively.
  • Personalization waterfall: Outreach personalization that layers multiple data points for context-rich messaging instead of template-based emails.
  • Sales sequences: Supports automated, multistep campaigns across email and LinkedIn, allowing SDRs to scale efforts without manual tracking.
  • Deliverability tools: Built-in warmup and monitoring features to keep sender reputation healthy and ensure emails land in the inbox.
  • Analytics and reporting: Tracks response rates, campaign performance, and channel effectiveness to guide adjustments in real time.
  • Integrations: Connects with HubSpot, Salesforce, LinkedIn, and Slack for data sync, collaboration, and streamlined workflows.

Artisan’s roadmap hints at bigger ambitions with its new AI agents, which are expected to support meetings and interact with inbound leads. But for now, Artisan’s focus is outbound sales automation, so don’t drive your expectations too high.

Pricing

Artisan has no fixed prices. Instead, it tailors packages to your team’s setup. The company’s website lists options for a wide range of typical needs.

You can mix these options to design a plan that covers all your needs. Plans are shaped around two factors: how many leads you want to work with and how many seats (BDRs, AEs, etc.) you need. The sales team takes it from there to build a custom proposal.

Every plan comes with white-glove onboarding, a dedicated account manager, and direct Slack or Teams support for larger teams.

Topo overview

Topo is an AI-powered sales development platform designed to automate and optimize B2B outbound sales processes. Topo’s focus feature is its ability to train AI specifically for each company. By feeding Topo with your ICP, sales playbook, knowledge base, and other nuances of the sales process, you’ll get customized AI agents with a solid understanding of your company’s product, industry, and value proposition.

Key features and capabilities

Here are some of the features that make Topo special:

  • Custom-trained AI SDRs: Industry-specific agents adapted to each company’s ICP, playbook, and value proposition.
  • Lead sourcing and qualification: Identifies, vets, and prioritizes prospects based on fit and intent.
  • Personalized outreach: Drafts tailored emails and messages aligned with the company’s voice and sales strategy.
  • Reply management: Monitors and responds to inbound replies, escalating to reps when needed.
  • Onboarding guidance: Provides step-by-step assistance to set up and optimize sales processes.
  • Intent signals: Surfaces engagement cues to help SDRs act on high-probability opportunities.
  • Integrations: Works with HubSpot and LinkedIn to keep data and workflows in sync.

Once trained, Topo’s AI SDRs handle most SDR tasks autonomously, engaging sales reps only when necessary. This way, Topo’s approach combines human sales expertise with AI automation, reducing manual tasks while increasing lead conversion and booked meetings.

Pricing

Topo offers tiered plans that scale with lead volume and campaign complexity. Instead of a one-size-fits-all model, each plan bundles the platform’s AI capabilities with dedicated outbound infrastructure to keep deliverability and performance consistent.

Across all plans, Topo includes dedicated email infrastructure (domains, mailboxes, warmup, deliverability monitoring) as standard, which is often an extra with competing tools.

After reading this overview, you might think Artisan and Topo are almost identical. And while they do share a lot in common, a closer look reveals some significant differences you’ll notice in our detailed comparison.

Where Artisan does well

Artisan shines when it comes to automating outbound sales, so teams spend more time closing deals, not drowning in admin. Most of Artisan’s features are covered by Ava, an AI BDR that sources prospects, enriches leads, writes emails, and handles follow-ups.

Artisan’s core features include:

  • B2B contact database with enrichment: Artisan connects users to a massive database of over 300 million verified B2B contacts worldwide. Ava searches for the right leads using 65 criteria. On top of raw contacts, it enriches records with firmographic, technographic, and intent signals like fundraising news, job postings, or website activity.
  • Personalization waterfall: Instead of plugging in a name and company into a template, Ava layers multiple signals, like recent social posts, press mentions, hiring activity, or website visits, to decide how to personalize outreach. It might open with “Congrats on your Series B raise last month” or mention a recent blog post the prospect authored. These contextual touches make cold outreach land more like a warm introduction, help avoid the generic tone of most outbound campaigns, and increase engagement.
  • Deliverability and warmup: Cold email is only useful if it lands in the inbox, and Artisan builds deliverability features into the core platform. It offers mailbox health monitoring, bounce prevention, and warmup functionality that gradually increases sending volumes.
  • Two-channel sequences: Artisan sequences stretch across both email and LinkedIn, combining automation with various touchpoints. A campaign might start with a personalized email, follow with a LinkedIn connection request, and send a reminder a week later without manual tracking.
  • Analytics and reporting: Artisan gives teams visibility into what works and what is wasted effort. The platform tracks response rates, LinkedIn acceptance, and campaign performance, so teams can adjust quickly instead of guessing.

Artisan has also teased two more agents, Aria and Aaron, who are supposed to cover the roles of a meeting assistant and an inbound SDR. Both are still in development, though, so as of September 2025, Ava remains the only one live. Still, the roadmap suggests Artisan is working toward a more complete AI sales team.

Where Topo does well

Topo is pretty similar to Artisan and also works best for outbound sales, helping sales teams focus on the right prospects and move deals forward without juggling multiple tools. Most of Topo’s features are centered around AI agents that perform tasks of SDRs.

A few particularly useful features include:

  • Industry-specific AI agents: Topo provides pre-trained AI agents tailored for various industries, including HR, marketing, and finance. These agents are equipped with industry-specific knowledge and access to relevant data sources, allowing them to execute targeted campaigns with precision.
  • AI Agent training: Topo can be trained for each specific company. You can define your ICP, integrate your CRM, and set up a Q&A knowledge base so the agent understands your unique process. With a co-pilot mode in Slack or Teams, you can monitor and control lead quality in real time.
  • Audience building and lead qualification: With Topo, teams determine their target audience using complex, multi-layered criteria to zero in on the most promising prospects. Then, based on audience description, ICP, and intent signals, the AI agent searches for and qualifies the leads.
  • Personalized messaging: Topo writes hyper-targeted outreach based on research and intent signals. It also offers automated cadences for campaigns that run across email and LinkedIn. Thanks to scalable playbooks, customizable scripts, and A/B testing, it’s pretty good in outbound outreach. AI agents can also be trained to respond instantly to prospects’ questions, keeping conversations moving and ensuring timely follow-ups. But it takes time and significant input from human sales reps first.
  • Email infrastructure: The platform manages domains, mailboxes, and deliverability, keeping email operations safe and reliable. This lets you run high-volume outreach campaigns while maintaining a strong email reputation and compliance.
  • CRM integration and collaboration tools: Topo integrates seamlessly with HubSpot, allowing for smooth data syncing and activity tracking. It also offers collaboration features through Slack and Microsoft Teams.

As you see, Artisan and Topo have fairly similar feature sets: lead search and qualification, personalized outreach, email infrastructure, and CRM integrations. But some features stand out: Topo’s industry-specific agents vs Artisan’s Ava. You’ll see even more differences when we look at each tool’s drawbacks.

Where Artisan falls short

Artisan brings plenty of strengths to outbound sales, but it’s not without shortcomings. Teams looking for a full end-to-end solution might want to choose another tool due to its certain limitations:

  • No inbound lead capture: Artisan is built almost entirely around outbound. It doesn’t offer strong tools for managing inbound leads from forms, content, or web requests, although the Aaron agent is expected to fix this. It doesn’t track website visitors’ activities either, so sales reps need to contact the company first to catch leads. Sales teams often need to pair it with another system just to handle inbound prospects.
  • Not actually “fully multichannel”: Presently, Artisan only supports email and LinkedIn.
  • Unclear & potentially high pricing: You need to contact sales for a quote, and even then, costs vary depending on which features you choose to activate. While Ava is advertised as doing everything from sourcing to outreach, the way pricing is split into separate functions suggests you could end up paying more than expected.
  • Quality & personalization issues: Some users find AI-written emails too generic, lacking the personalization that drives stronger responses. Without human oversight, the outreach can come across as robotic, which hurts engagement rates.
  • Limited customization & learning curve: Outreach templates and message sequences don’t always give users the freedom to adjust tone or fine-tune content for specific industries. To get the most out of the system, teams often need to monitor performance closely and make manual adjustments, which is not exactly “set and forget.”

Where Topo falls short

Topo offers a streamlined approach to sales, yet it does have several limitations worth noting. Teams seeking a comprehensive, all-in-one solution might find some gaps:

  • Limited outreach channels: While Topo supports email and LinkedIn, it doesn’t offer phone, text message, or other social platform integrations yet.
  • No inbound lead capture: Topo is primarily designed for outbound sales. It lacks tools for managing inbound leads from forms, content, or web requests. Sales teams often need to pair it with another system to handle inbound prospects effectively.
  • Setup complexity: While Topo offers onboarding assistance, much of the initial setup still requires significant effort from the user. Teams looking for a quick start might find it too time-intensive.
  • Customization limits: Topo can be trained for your company, but it has its limits. Setting up ICPs and agent behavior can take longer than expected, and if your process needs lots of variables or complex rules, you may hit a wall. Some teams end up creating manual workarounds when they want more nuanced personalization than Topo allows.
  • Lack of CRM property personalization: Topo doesn’t support personalization using CRM properties. As a result, outreach may lack nuanced personalization that drives stronger engagement. At the same time, implementing advanced automation workflows requires additional setup or workarounds.

Together, Artisan and Topo cover much of the outbound sales puzzle, but both leave gaps. This opens the door for alternatives like AiSDR, which offers a more complete solution without familiar trade-offs.

Why AiSDR might be a smarter alternative

Artisan and Topo both focus heavily on outbound automation, where Artisan centers on high-volume execution while Topo emphasizes company-trained AI agents.

AiSDR takes a different approach by combining strategy ideation, signal-based targeting, and conversation management in one system. This helps you send the right message to the right person at precisely the time they’re hungriest for your solution.

AI Strategist

Topo requires a significant training period to “learn” your company’s playbook, while Artisan forces you to use their playbook.

AiSDR’s AI Strategist helps your campaigns go live in 15 minutes by analyzing your website and landing page. It then analyzes your unique value proposition, defines an audience to target, and creates 5 GTM plays you can launch in clicks.

Standard filters like “SaaS” or “100–500 employees” rarely capture what a sales team actually wants. AiSDR’s Live AI search is built to narrow that gap.

It uses real company updates, hiring activity, and online signals to find prospects with an active need, rather than relying on a static, outdated database. Just describe the type of company you’re after in plain language, such as “Companies with 100-499 employees in the Pacific Northwest currently hiring for sales development roles”.

AiSDR will then search the web to return a list of qualified matches.

Deeply researched messages

AiSDR goes beyond just deep personalization. AiSDR layers in research from 300+ intent signals, HubSpot and Salesforce properties, and LinkedIn activity into well-written messages.

And instead of recycled templates, AiSDR provides flexible frameworks that adjust tone and length based on your context and target audience, ensuring you stay protected from “AI spam” labels.

This gets you more “tell me more’s” from potential customers.

Data enrichment

AiSDR supports CSV uploads and CRM imports, then confirms and enriches records automatically. Missing fields are filled in and validated, risky emails are flagged, and duplicates are cleaned before campaigns launch.

If leads are generated through website visitor tracking, the platform can pull in additional context such as tech stack or recent company activity.

This reduces the need for external enrichment tools and limits bouncing or manual cleanup between systems.

Intent and signal capture for outbound and inbound sales

Artisan and Topo are primarily outbound-focused. This leaves a massive gap to cover – inbound.

AiSDR bridges this gap by tracking website and LinkedIn visits and quickly responding to any form fills, demo bookings, and webinar sign-ups. The moment AiSDR’s “radar” detects an inbound signal, the AI identifies and enriches the lead before firing off a researched message based on the signal, whether it’s answering a question, handling an objection, or following up on an event registration.

You can also quickly set up and run unique sales plays like closed-lost reactivation and highlighting new updates to your product.

This creates a more continuous and sustainable pipeline rather than using separate tools for automating inbound and outbound motions.

Clear pricing

AiSDR keeps its pricing simple and transparent. Subscriptions start at $900 per month for 1,200 messages, with leads, warmup, seats, and bounce checks already included. The result is a clear price with no hidden add-ons, no credit math, and no surprises.

Multichannel outreach

AiSDR sends messages over email and LinkedIn, and supports your call efforts by generating call scripts and power dialing via Aircall. You can even include media like memes, videos, and voice notes inside messages, making your message more likely to stand out from inbox noise.

Unlike Artisan, which stops when a lead replies, AiSDR manages conversations, follow-ups, and lead nurturing until a lead books a meeting. This reduces hand-off and mid-conversation friction.

AI-powered account scoring

Rather than hitting every lead with the same intensity, AiSDR uses deep integrations with HubSpot and Salesforce to score and prioritize accounts based on fit and activity. The AI only reaches out to qualified accounts that meet a specific threshold, protecting your sender reputation. It enriches these accounts with publicly available web data to find a reason “why” for the outreach, making the message harder to ignore.
