Inspiring Your Team to Learn Something New Each Day

Psst! Want to know a secret?

This is the one trick that actually inspired my team to learn something new each day.

It wasn’t marketing books (tried that), blogs (shared those), free courses (recommended them), or KPIs (set and quizzed).

Nothing really seemed to catch on until we introduced a “Today I learned…” segment to our evening syncs.

How it works: At the end of each team member’s ‘daily report‘, they share one interesting thing they learned that day. It can be anything from something in the news to a hack or new concept. (Ideally, it should be something related to AiSDR, AI in marketing and sales, or their specific job. But anything goes so long as it’s new.)

Here are 4 reasons why “Today I learned…” works.

TLDR

  • The goal: Get your team to actively learn something new each day
  • The tactic: Set a goal for every team member to briefly explain one ‘lesson’ at the team’s evening sync
  • The result: All teammates engage in active learning and share new knowledge with each other

Reason 1: Equality

From intern to CEO, everyone learns.

This promotes a culture of continuous learning as everyone, regardless of their position, contributes equally.

As a result, it levels the playing field, ensuring that the voice of each member is valued and heard. In turn, this fosters a sense of collective growth and belonging.

Reason 2: Peer pressure

No one likes being the only one who doesn’t share something.

It’s like Show & Tell in elementary school – How would you feel if you were the only person who didn’t bring something to show to the class?

The same feeling applies here. Consequently, team members are motivated to stay curious and observant. This subtle pressure gets everyone to be on the lookout for new facts and knowledge they can share.

And even if it slips their mind until 5 minutes before the sync, they hone their search skills by learning how to query search engines for useful information (such as competitor research).

Reason 3: Content filtering

Breaking large amounts of information into bite-sized pieces takes practice.

“Today I learned…” teaches the team how to work with information and pull away what’s truly important. Moving forward, they can use this to improve their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.

After all, good communication requires concrete phrases, a common language, and specificity.

Reason 4: Dopamine shot

Who doesn’t like to apply something they’ve learned? It’s massively rewarding.

In addition to reinforcing the learning process, the dopamine boost can get addictive (in a good way!) while motivating people to constantly seek out new ideas and ways to improve.

This helps them stay energized, engaged, and (best of all) feeling good about their work.

The Result

This daily sharing ritual is a combo of continuous learning and open communication where everyone feels empowered to contribute.

There are several benefits to it:

  • Keeps the team curious and motivated to learn
  • Lays a foundation for collaboration within the team
  • Creates an opportunity for teammates to learn about each other

Ultimately, our “Today I learned…” segment fosters individual and team growth while keeping motivation high.
